What is Neopolitan Style PIzza?
It is the oldest school there is.
Don’t get us wrong, we seldom find a style of pizza we don’t like … but, it is important to remember the past.
Pizza began in the shared village ovens of Napoli in the 1700s. Pizza pioneers took it in new directions when they arrived as immigrants in the U.S. due to the different types of ovens and ingredients available.
Unlike New York, Chicago, or Detroit styles, Neopolitan pizza is known for its soft chew and light crunch with super simple toppings. Why? Because it was a working class street food. Old school pizza needed to travel well. Sailors, for example, would fold up this simple flatbread and put in their pockets to take to work!!!
